Background:

The junior school shares a 'pleasant and extensive' site with its infants. It is popular with parents and 'benefits from a favourable intake'. Summercroft celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1999. Its brick building consists of eight individual classrooms to accommodate two forms of entry, in addition to a hall, dining room, library, music room and technology room. Summercroft prides itself on its academic reputation. Extra-curricular activities are dominated by music and sport, including music lessons available for seven instruments, an orchestra, recorder groups and choir which perform in termly concerts. Football, netball, cricket, and rounders are played in inter-school matches. Charity fund-raising has involved sponsored events and the sale of harvest festival produce, and children occasionally organise their own events. Summercroft's main aim is 'to create a happy, safe environment where children will experience education in its widest sense'. The school is over-subscribed and all places are filled by Year 2 classes from Summercroft Infants School.
