Background:
Reverend Charles Colson founded Hormead Church of England Primary School in 1845. The school hall was built in 1845 and subsequent buildings have been added over the years. There are now four classrooms, a library, a playschool, a hall, an outdoor swimming pool, and a wildlife area with a pond. In 1998, the school was awarded a Government charter mark for excellence in public service. Extra-curricular activities include clubs such as dancing, sport, sewing, art, chess and drama. Children are taught French from the age of six to 11. There are annual Nativity and music and drama productions for the community. The school has close links with the church of St Nicholas the Great in Hormead. Children regularly take part in services, and services are sometimes held in the school.
