Background:

In 1966, the school opened on its present 'excellent' site, shared with Kingshill Infant School and within 'easy reach' of Ware town centre. The school is housed in a large, single-storey building with eight 'spacious' classrooms and a multi-purpose hall. There is also a 'splendid' library, 'attractive' reading area, purpose-built music room, 'extensive' playing field, two playgrounds, a 'pleasant' courtyard and an outdoor swimming pool. St Mary's aims to 'provide high standards of teaching and the best possible learning environment for the children'. To this end the resources are 'consistently good' with 'particularly good' book provision. All classrooms have personal computers and two internet connections and the school plans to network all the computers within three years. A 'range' of extra-curricular activities are available. The sports teams and choirs 'experience much success' and the school has a 'very good reputation' for its dramatic/musical productions. St Mary's has 'strong' links with the Church and with local businesses. The parent's association is 'very active' and has provided extra equipment and resources to 'enrich and improve' the available facilites. St Mary's wants its pupils 'to be happy and to do their best' and believes that good standards are achieved through 'encouragement, praise, appropriate support and high expectations'. The school is oversubscribed.
