Background:

The John Henry Newman School founded in 1987, by the amalgamation of St Michael's (Boys) and St Angela's (Girls) and occupies modern buildings in pleasant surroundings. It serves Stevenage, north Hertfordshire and east Bedfordshire and is easily reached by road and public transport. The school has excellent sporting facilities including a large sports hall and gymnasium, playing fields, hard courts and all-weather pitch. A new modern languages suite and accommodation for religion both was opened in 1999. The school's strength lies in the excellent provision and achievement in all areas of the curriculum. The school offers various extra-curricular activities, particularly in sports and music and there is a strong tradition of high quality dramatic productions. The school also organises many trips, most recently to the Loire Valley, Rhineland, Barcelona, Blegian battlefields, Florence, Austria and Canada. Strong charitable links are maintained with two villages in Uganda and the school organises an annual 'Kiss' charity week for Ugandan children. The school encourages its students to explore their faith and really live as Christians.
