Background:

Oaklands Primary School is situated in the village of Oaklands and Mardley Heath. It was built in 1965 as a two-storey school for six classes and in 1970 a further room was added. Indoor facilties include a non-fiction loan library, class fiction libraries, a resource area, a kiln room and an assembly hall. Outside there is a heated, open air swimming pool with changing rooms, two asphalt play areas, an adventure playground and a small field. The school prides itself on its friendly, family atmosphere and nurtures its relation with parents through the very active and supportive Parent Teacher and Friends Association. In addition there are close links with the wider community through families, the governors and local groups. Liaison is maintained with the nursery and secondary schools. Pupils' are taken on visits outside of school with the help of excellent local educational resources such as the Wheathampstead Education Centre and the County Music and Museum Services. The school also provides After-school activities for pupils' in football, tennis, rounders, cross-country, chess and French.
