Background:

The school was founded in 1961 on the eastern outskirts of Stevenage. It is an attractive school, situated on a pleasant site. The classrooms are well decorated, light and airy. A further faculty building has enabled the school to welcome more pupils to the school. The school has an excellent specialist accommodation. Each curriculum area has its own information technology room. The school has seven well-equipped science laboratories, seven technology rooms, three art rooms and two business studies rooms. Its purpose-built performing arts block, with its auditorium and music practice rooms, provides a splendid setting for creative work. The school has its own playing fields, tennis courts, all-weather surface and gymnasium. The library, which is an outstanding facility, is in the care of professional librarians. The school has outstanding ICT facilities. Nobel has twice been recognised as an 'Investor In People' and has won the 'North Hertfordshire Business Award' for training and development. Nobel has received national recognition for raising standards, including direct acknowledgment from the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education. The award recognises a further improvement in GCSE results. In partnership with the University of Hertfordshire, Nobel has been awarded Training School status by the DfES. The school's ethos is based on praise and the recognition of all forms of achievement. The school'seeks to maintain a learning community that enables everyone to work at their best. Through a balanced educational experience the school aims to help and encourage its students to develop self-esteem and a sense of personal morality and to experience opportunities for spiritual growth.
