Background:
Opened in 1952, Brookmans Park School is housed in a single storey building set on an 'attractive green site' with a large playing field. It has since been extended and 'extensively refurbished'. A new nursery unit was opened in 1997 and this takes children for five half day sessions a week for three terms before they start in reception class as rising fives. None of the classes throughout the school has more than 30 pupils. The school is situated in a 'quiet, private housing area', close to the main line station into London. Pupils enjoy a 'wide range' of after school clubs ranging from art and chess to 'good' football, netball and athletics activities. The school competes in a number of leagues and competitions 'usually with a good deal of success'. It has several major fund-raising events for charities, some of which pupils organise themselves. There is a 'strong' PTA which organises many events and 'supports the school well' with donations to help fund many items such as computers, televisions, video recorders and library books. The school has 'high academic standards' and is 'well suppported in its efforts by co-operative and helpful parents'.
