Background:
Hitchin Boys' School is a single sex 11-18 community school which became a SpecialistTechnology College at the start of this term. The School was founded by John Mattock in 1632 'for instructing the children of the inhabitants of Hitchin in good literature and virtuous education for the avoidance of idleness, the mother of all vice and wickedness'. Hitchin Boys' School moved to its present site in 1889 and over the last century has expanded considerably. Facilities are being upgraded to meet the demands of the present day curriculum. The school today continues the aims of its founder with a strong emphasis on high standards and traditional values - hard work and play, honesty, respect for others and their property, orderly and courteous behaviour. Boys are expected to adopt a positive attitude towards academic study and take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the School. Staff, governors, parents and boys are committed to the challenge of preparing pupils for life in the twenty-first century.
