Background:

Newberries Primary School was built in 1972. The school has seven classes from Reception to year six and is set in extensive grounds including sport pitches, an adventure playground and a quiet area. A recently built extension has provided the school with separate classrooms for each age group and an ICT suite housing 16 computers. In addition, the school is fully networked, each class has at least two computers and an interactive whiteboard. Other facilities include a large school hall with gymnastic equipment, a dining room, music room, library and a small teaching room. Academic standards are high. Success in all areas of the curriculum is encouraged, emphasis is also given to music, drama and sport, There are three major music and drama productions a year and each pupil is involved in one of these. Instrumental lessons are offered and all key stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to sing in the school choir. Sports include football, netball, tag rugby, unihoc, cricket, rounders and athletics. Over 50 pupils in key stage 2 play chess. There are close links with the local community including churches and synagogues, the library and theatre. Pupils raise money for their chosen charities through various initiatives. The school council takes an active part in school life. The school aims to provide happy, caring and sound learning environment.
