Background:
The original school was built in 1833. In 1965 a new school was constructed on a new site within the village of Bayford, and a new early years classroom with kitchen, cloakroom and disabled toilet and shower was completed in January 1999. Within the last two years the school has been fully double-glazed and re-roofed, and all doors fitted with one-way security locks. The school has lovely grounds with two ponds, an area which is soon to be devoted to nature study, and a fully enclosed early years playground, which was built by parental volunteers. There is a hard standing play area and a small playing field. The grounds also have many trees and shrubs. Bayford is a Church school with strong community links. Harvest festival and a Christmas carol service are held in the village church, and members of the community are invited to attend all school and church functions, in addition, the parish priest-in-charge takes an assembly each week. The school operates an open-door policy and encourages a close partnership between parents and teachers. Pupils take part in annual fund raising events for charities. In the last academic year, the school participated in Comic Relief and held a sponsored skip for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. Sporting activities include football, netball and rounders clubs and participation in a friendly league for matches and tournaments. Older pupils also play cricket and rugby. Instrumental tuition in individual instruments is also available to pupils aged five and upwards. An after-school French club is held weekly for pupils aged four and upwards. The school aims to provide a challenging, supportive and enthusiastic learning environment for all children.
