Background:

Founded in 1857 to provide education according to the principles and practices of the Church of England. Set in large grounds with beautiful outlook; two playgrounds, resurfaced in 2002; large field, with other play facilities and equipment; pond and environmental area, as well as quiet garden. Facilities within the building include a hall for physical education, drama and assemblies, a dinning room, library and cookery area. The school moved from its original buildings in 1973 and there were further extensions to the site in 1981. Most recently, in 2001, a new classroom was added. Team sports are football, netball, rounders, athletics, badminton and cricket; football and netball teams won both area leagues and tournaments in 2006. Facilities consist of two football pitches, two netball courts, and a school hall for indoor work, with a badminton court marked. Variety of clubs take place during and after school, including netball, tag rugby, football (winter/spring terms), maypole dancing, country dancing, cricket and rounder (summer term), athletics (summer term). The school tries to establish contact and links with a variety of people and organisations. People with specialist skills or knowledge are regularly invited in the school to wider the scope of the children's experience. After-school care, until 6pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.1 applications per place. Basic Skills Quality Mark (2003); DfES achievement award; Activemark Gold (2002, 2005).
