Background:
Situated in the centre of Meldreth Village, the school occupies a 'large, delightful' site that contains playing fields, an adventure playground and a swimming pool. The original building dates back to 1910 with additions in the 1960s and more recently. It includes a 'spacious' hall and is 'fully-equipped' to cater for the disabled. The school was over-subscribed by 50% for reception entry in 1999. It offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum which is 'differentiated to cater for individual needs'. The catchment area serves a diverse range of families which the school values for the 'healthy mix of pupils' it provides. The level of parental support is seen as a strength of the school. Music 'flourishes' with the help of an in-house specialist teacher and peripatetic teachers. Netball and football teams practice after school and sometimes play against other schools. Other extra-curricular activities include drama, art, technology and nature club. All children attend educational visits and Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to participate in a residential trip. In order to heighten pupils' social awareness, the school raises money for different charities each year. It aims to provide 'a quality educational experience for all pupils in a caring environment'.
