Background:

Colney Heath is a single form entry Community school with all classes of mixed ability. Each class is housed in its own classroom and supervised by a full-time teacher. Colney Heath School opened in June 1881 and moved to its present site in 1968 and the original buildings being sited further along the High Street where Scholars Court now stands. An additional classroom was added to the present buildings in 1976. In April 1993 a mobile classroom was purchased in order to accommodate the rising number of children in the Reception Class. It is now used as a Special Needs Centre for use by our Special Needs Co-ordinator and Support Staff. Each classroom has its own cloakroom area including toilet and washing facilities. The school has an assembly hall, dining hall, kiln room and library. In recent years in conjunction with the P.T.A, the school has redeveloped both the Infant and Junior play areas. Both Infant and Junior playgrounds now have new equipment, quiet seated areas with raised gardens and paved areas including chess and draughtboards. New equipment is now installed in the Nursery play area. A woodland walk connects both playgrounds with trees being donated by Countryside Management Services. Many items have been given to the School but it has relied heavily on voluntary help from parents and staff for which we are very grateful.
