Background:

Killigrew Junior School is housed in a one-storey building, which opened in 1957 in lovely grounds with a playground, very large field, wildlife area, outdoor swimming pool and small adventure playground. Children come from a wide catchment area and from a range of backgrounds, and the majority have attended Killigrew Infants School. The six original classes have now increased to eight, two for each year group, with 60 pupils in each year group. Facilities include a computer suite with 32 computers and one or two computers in each classroom, and two more in the library. A special educational needs teacher visits twice a week and there are 10 part-time classroom assistants. Many clubs are offered, currently jazz dance, chess, art, football, netball, choir, folk, cricket, recorder and Spanish, and there are six peripatetic music teachers. Killigrow is a happy, caring school in which each and every member of the school community is valued and respected by every other member. The school aims for a relaxed and purposeful atmosphere which is devoid of tension. Children work best in a calm, friendly environment, where the qualities of common sense, courtesy and consideration for others must be exercised. The school also aims to present a caring and stimulating environment in which the endeavours of all children are valued and believe in setting high standards in every aspect of school life.
