Background:
This school is a co-educational day school for children between the ages of four and 11 years. It was opened in 1969 on the present site in Hall Place Gardens. The school takes its name from Sir John Blundell Maple MP, who was a freeman of the city in 1894. The school building contains seven mainstream classrooms and a smaller classroom for teaching hearing-impaired children. There is a large hall equipped for physical education, which is also used for assemblies, drama and music. The school has a central non-fiction library and a small room for instrumental lessons. Outside it has a playing field, two playgrounds and a conservation area, which includes a pond. The parents' association has recently provided the school with computers and safe playground climbing apparatus. The school is equipped with at least three computers in every classroom, a radio projector, three television sets, two video recorders, a video camera, a digital camera, two photocopiers and two pianos. The school provides a range of extra-curricular activities which includes: netball, football, athletics, tennis, computers, French, gardening, pond dipping, games club, swaps club, choir, and string and wind bands. The school aims to provide an inclusive and stimulating learning environment where the children feel secure and confident.
