Background:

Founded in 1950, Aboyne Lodge Junior Mixed and Infant School is in the middle of St Albans City. To celebrate its first half century in October 2000, the school transformed the school grounds by planting indigenous trees and a hedgerow, building a mini-amphitheatre and constructing a life-size mosaic of a whale in the school playground. Facilities include a multi-functional hall, a dining hall, a kitchen, non-fiction and fiction libraries, central resource rooms and a community room. The school runs a Bangla class and Bangla cyber café for Bangladeshi parents and children. There are strong links to the Arabic language school in Watford. The foundation stage has received the Hertfordshire 'Quality mark' for good practice and the school regularly hosts visits from other schools. A new ICT suite and mini-suite have been instrumental in raising ICT standards and the school has developed the use of digital video work across the curriculum.
