Background:

Incepted in 1972, Bridgewater School maintained co-education for pupils aged 9-13 years. Initially the building was built for around 350 pupils but now it facilitates houses over 400 young people and more than 45 staff. Recent years have seen the conversion of space into a modern, fully equipped ICT Suite and a well-stocked Library as well as the construction of a superb Technology Block. Schools are also looking forward to the imminent provision of a new double classroom block to cope with our expanding numbers. Schools have two playgrounds and an Astroturf pitch as well as a huge field with space for a full-sized athletics track and several football/hockey pitches. One of the unique features of this school is that it provides three-tier system of schooling. The school within the town work very closely together to ensure continuity and consistency. It is a testimony to the success of this system that increases number of children who are keen to benefit from the special experience that it offers. The school endeavours to help children to learn the facts, skills and concepts necessary to each of the curriculum disciplines and to develop their motivation and capacity for lifelong learning. Mathematics is taught in ability groups throughout the school. Pupils are placed in the group best suited to them. The school want to recognise every individual child is different and has/her own needs and interests. The school wants to help every child reach his or her full potential in learning both in and outside the classroom. Music has long been strength and school encourage all children to become involved in one of the many musical instruments or take singing lessons. An important part of the Bridgewater experience is the opportunity to participate in a variety of special events and trips that support the curriculum and enable pupils to gain wider experience of the world and of each other. In addition to trips, optional holidays are organised from time to time including skiing and canoeing holidays abroad. This school supports a number of community initiatives by entering teams for competitions such as the Rotary Club, Lion Club and more. In recent years schools have supported NCH, NSPCC, The Pepper Foundation, The Hospice of St Francis, The British Heart Foundation, Children in Need and Barnardos. The school aim is to create a lifelong interest in learning, both at school and through the wider community.
