Background:
Founded in 1876, the school still uses part of the original Victorian building, although three classrooms are now housed in modern constructions. Gaddesden Row is located in open countryside with 'beautiful surroundings'. Pupils are offered a 'secure, caring environment where each child is valued and encouraged to reach his or her full potential'. After-school clubs include recorders, computers, sports and arts and the school has strong community links. Visiting speakers are drawn from the local community and are use to enrich the curriculum. Links have also been established with other countries such as Romania, Malawi and India and in 1999-2000 visitors were welcomed from the USA and Japan. A member of staff has the responsibility of monitoring pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and 'specific' SEN resourcses are also available.
