Background:

Marriotts School is an 11-18 comprehensive school for boys and girls catering for the full range of abilities. It is situated to the east of Stevenage town centre on an elevated site overlooking Fairlands Valley. Nearby are Fairlands Lakes which offer a range of water sport activities. The school opened as Bedwell School in 1962 moving into its then new buildings in 1965. The school changed its name in 1995 to Marriotts to acknowledge the widening community it now serves. The school has excellent and improving facilities including five multi-media network rooms all having access to the Internet through a broadband link, a media studies suite with video-editing, access to laptop computers to support video image analysis, specific software to support literacy and numeracy (Success maker), subject specific PCs to support learning within areas. It facilitates six new science laboratories and a technician base, six new tennis courts, brand new changing facilities for boys and girls, two new food technology rooms, a new textiles room, and two new humanities rooms. The school aims to provide high quality learning so that all young people in its school community achieve their full potential using their intellectual, physical and creative skills to maximum effect.
