Background:
The school was founded in 1847 and is housed in a 'well-maintained' Victorian building with more recent extensions. The school has a playground, netball court, playing field with adventure trail funded by the 'very active' PTA, conservation area and pond, and an additional field for football and athletics. Extra curricular activities include football, netball, dance/drama, orchestra, art, French and choir. The netball and football teams participate in Hitchin and Rural Schools rallies and the school won the SE England Schools championship in 2005. The school was described as 'outstanding' by Ofsted in February 2006. A new school hall and entrance was completed in 2005. St Ippolyts has a strong Christian ethos in which pupils of all faiths and backgrounds are valued. 'The care and support for pupils and the relationship between pupils and adults are outstanding' Ofsted February 2006.
