Background:
Opened in 1950 in west of town; occupies Grade II listed building and grounds designed to fit between well-established woodland and the contours of the land; small wood backs onto large public wood, to which the school has direct access. Facilities include individual classrooms with large adjacent work areas, spacious hall, dining room, libraries, music, general room and swimming pool. Well-equipped, with wide range of resources, including a computer suite and class-based PCs, all with network and internet access; every classroom equipped with interactive whiteboard. Large purpose-built nursery caters for children from age of three. All children cover the whole curriculum, in addition to which music is an important element. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a range of extra-curricular activities which includes lacrosse, German, football and netball. Over-subscribed, with more than five applications per place. Investor in People status; DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'All members of the school community are valued. The school aims to develop the whole child and provide a broad, balanced curriculum and range of other experiences'.
