Background:
The school dates from 1957 and has been expanded, most particularly in the late 90s by way of a new library, science and mathematics bock, on-site pavilion and two storey music and drama building incorporating a studio theatre, recording studio and six practice rooms. The school developed 36 acres of land three miles from its main campus into an outstanding sporting facility which can host up to 18 teams and is used variously for rugby, football and cricket in their seasons. There are plans to move the school to a new site increase its size by one form of entry (from five forms to six forms of entry) and re-build it in purpose built accommodation in 2010. 'A truly all-round education'. The school is based on traditional values of mutual respect within a Christian ethos. It values: others, kindness, wisdom, commitment and integrity. Notes of guidance to parents regarding criteria 3 and 4: Distance will be taken as the straight-line distance from the main entrance of the relevant school to the applicant's address. Where there are two applicants who live the same distance from an alternative school, criterion 4 will be used as a tiebreak.Notes of guidance to parents regarding criterion 5: Parents who consider their son to be eligible under criterion 5 are reminded that the entry is competitive, i.e. the places will go to those applicants with the greatest level of demonstrated capacity to learn or develop skills in sport or music and can benefit from the particular expertise and facilities at the school from among the applicants that year. Applicants for assessment for music must indicate on their school (gold) application forms that they wish to be considered for a place under criterion 5, musical aptitude. They will be required to attend the school for a specific musical aptitude test. Applicants for assessment for sport must indicate on their school (gold) application forms that they wish to be considered for a place under criterion 5, sporting aptitude. Applicants for the sports in which the school specialises will be required to attend for assessment. The sports in which the school specialises are rugby, soccer, athletics and cricket. Assessment for sporting aptitude will be based on the 'fundamental motor skills test' designed by The Education Authority, Victoria, Australia.
