Background:

Wilshere-Dacre was founded in 1929 and became a Primary School in 1940. It is a Junior School for children between the ages of 7 and 11 years. They come mainly from the surrounding neighbourhood, reflecting the cosmopolitan nature of its town. Their differing backgrounds are respected by everyone and add interest and insight to its lessons. In each class there are children of varying abilities. The school is housed in a large traditional building with a central hall. In addition to classrooms, there is an ICT suite, science/cookery room, music room and quiet reading areas. Large playing fields and hard play areas surround the building. There are also seating areas and play equipment facilities. It has recently installed basketball nets and a climbing wall. There are also assemblies when each class presents a selection of their work to the whole school. The school aims to provide a wide variety of opportunities for our pupils to exercise their talents and try their hands at a number of skills and interests. A variety of after school clubs and music lessons in a range of instruments add to the range of activities in which children may take part. Children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of voluntary school activities. The majority take place during lunchtimes or after school. Clubs provided by the school are free of charge. The extra-curricular activities include: rugby, netball, gymnastics and drama. The school aims to provide a happy, caring and friendly community.
