Background:

Located on an extensive rural site of 60 acres, surrounded by farmland, Parmiters was founded in 1681 through the will of Thomas Parmiter a silk merchant of Bethnal Green. The school moved to its current site in Garston in 1977 and was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. From 1991 to 1999 Parmiter's was a grant-maintained school, returning to voluntary aided status in September 1999. The school continues to enjoy the support of the Parmiter's Foundation. The buildings are modern and recent additions include Kester Ball House, the sixth-form centre, and Withersfield House, which accommodates the geography and history departments. The new Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre, largely funded by the National Lottery, was also opened in 1997 by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. The Donald Wallace Sports Pavilion and floodlit synthetic pitch were opened by Sir Trevor Brooking in 2004; new Graham Waters Language Centre in 2005. Other facilities include extensive ICT provision and a field centre in Wales. Named as 'particularly successful' in 2003 annual Ofsted report. New music centre in 2006.
